This is the Puligny for drinkers who want perfume over power. Jacques Carillon calls his Champs Canet fine, subtle and flowery, and across vintages it has shown a generous but mineral, always floral character with an odd and rather lovely hint of quinine. The vines are in a 0.55-hectare parcel at the northern edge of Puligny, right on the Meursault border, and his father Louis planted them in 1973. It's one of three Puligny premiers crus in Jacques's range, alongside Les Referts and Les Perrières. That range came from Domaine Louis Carillon, which was split between Jacques and his brother François starting with the 2010 vintage, though the family has been in Puligny since at least 1520. The farming is close to organic, with no herbicides and the soil worked by plough and by hand. The domaine's usual approach to this cuvée keeps the oak quiet: a year in barrel with only 20% new, then six months in stainless steel. In Burgundy, 2024 brought a wet spring, relentless downy mildew and a tiny crop.

Tasting Profile

Expect a perfumed, finely built Puligny: white flowers, lemon and ripe pear, a chalky minerality and the faint bitter, quinine-like edge this cuvée is known for. The oak stays in the background, giving a supple, mid-weight texture with a touch of Meursault-like generosity, held up by bright acidity before a long, dry, saline finish.
