Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc 2022 [NET]

$14499

Domaine Leflaive's entry-level white, and a wine that punches well above its appellation. Typically drawn from declassified parcels just outside the Puligny line, this is Bourgogne Blanc with Puligny DNA - made by the same team, in the same cellar, with the same biodynamic farming that Anne-Claude Leflaive pioneered in the 1990s. Brice de la Morandière runs the show today and continues the work. Chardonnay at its most pure and Burgundian, without the price tag of the village wine.

Burghound

90 points

"Includes about 20% of declassified young vines from various vineyards. A very pretty nose freely reveals its aromas of apple, pear and lemon rind. The succulent, delicious and appealingly vibrant middleweight flavors possess a relatively refined texture while displaying fine depth and length for a wine of this level. The 20% addition of young vines from upper-level vineyards clearly helps and overall, this is excellent."

Antonio Galloni

89 points

"The 2022 Bourgogne Blanc has a pleasant bouquet with Granny Smiths and light white peach aromas, which are very well-defined. The palate is well-balanced with fine weight, taut, fresh and quite potent for a regional white. The 2022 is satisfyingly persistent on the finish. This is white regional Burgundy from the top drawer." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

88 points

"Leflaive's 2022 Bourgogne Blanc delivers aromas of pear, green apple, white toast and citrus zest, framed by a discreet touch of reduction. Medium-bodied, satiny and racy, it's fine-boned and saline." —William Kelley

More about Domaine Leflaive

There are many outstanding producers of white Burgundy. When it comes to Puligny Montrachet one name is at the pinnacle - Domaine Leflaive. For many generations of the family and of Burgundy lovers they have been the one you want in your cellar. These are some of the most consistent and long lived white Burgundies from the Bourgogne Blanc, to the Puligny Montrachet, to the premier and grand crus. These are wines you can cellar for many years with complete confidence.

Anne-Claude Leflaive and her right-hand man Pierre Morey were pioneers of biodynamic farming. After seven years of experiments while the property was two-thirds organic and one third biodynamic, all of the vineyards were converted to biodynamic in 1997.

The farming is immaculate, there are constant improvements of the pruning, composting and cultivation of cover crops. Most of the vines were planted in the 1950's and 1980's, the vines are mature. The cellar work is slow and measured, the wines rest for at least two winters in their cold cellars, first in barrel, then in stainless steel tanks for the second winter. There is a maximum of 20% new oak for the premier crus. They are always working to make even greater wines.
