Domaine Leflaive Pouilly Fuisse En Vigneraie 2022 [NET]

$14499

Domaine Leflaive remains the spiritual capital of Puligny-Montrachet, the biodynamic standard-bearer that Anne-Claude Leflaive transformed in the 1990s and that her cousin Brice de la Morandière now stewards. Beginning in 2004, the domaine extended its expertise south into the Mâconnais; the first Pouilly-Fuissé vintage came in 2013, with a growing portfolio of named sites since. En Vigneraie is a tiny south-facing parcel sitting in the shadow of the Roche de Solutré, on shallow clay-limestone soils that ripen early and yield a wine of unusual density for the appellation. Fermented and aged entirely in barrel in Puligny, then rested in stainless steel before bottling, it shows the Leflaive signature: focused, transparent Chardonnay with a serious mineral backbone. A Mâconnais wine made like a Côte d'Or grand cru.

"The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé En Vigneraie 1er Cru spends one year in barrel with 15% new oak and then six months in stainless steel. This has an attractive bouquet with hints of yellow plum and fine mineralité. It's less honeyed than others I tasted from this vintage. The palate is nicely balanced with a keen thread of acidity. It's a little peachy and spicy in style, building nicely with a brisk finish." —Neal Martin

More about Domaine Leflaive

There are many outstanding producers of white Burgundy. When it comes to Puligny Montrachet one name is at the pinnacle - Domaine Leflaive. For many generations of the family and of Burgundy lovers they have been the one you want in your cellar. These are some of the most consistent and long lived white Burgundies from the Bourgogne Blanc, to the Puligny Montrachet, to the premier and grand crus. These are wines you can cellar for many years with complete confidence.

Anne-Claude Leflaive and her right-hand man Pierre Morey were pioneers of biodynamic farming. After seven years of experiments while the property was two-thirds organic and one third biodynamic, all of the vineyards were converted to biodynamic in 1997.

The farming is immaculate, there are constant improvements of the pruning, composting and cultivation of cover crops. Most of the vines were planted in the 1950's and 1980's, the vines are mature. The cellar work is slow and measured, the wines rest for at least two winters in their cold cellars, first in barrel, then in stainless steel tanks for the second winter. There is a maximum of 20% new oak for the premier crus. They are always working to make even greater wines.
