Brezza Dolcetto d’Alba 2024

$2799

This is Brezza's everyday red—the around-the-table bottle that the family drinks alongside whatever's coming out of the kitchen. Dolcetto is Piedmont's juicy, unfussy native grape, and in the hands of one of Barolo's most traditional producers, it shows real charm: deep purple-black fruit, a touch of almond bitterness on the finish, and the kind of low-key freshness that makes a Tuesday-night pasta feel like a small occasion. Brezza farms organically and ferments with native yeasts even at this everyday tier. As food-friendly as Italian reds get.

"The charming Brezza 2023 Dolcetto d’Alba boasts intense aromas and flavors of Marasca cherry, white pepper and pink peppercorn. Vinified in steel and concrete tanks, it’s fresh and savory, with a bitter almond finish that’s a classic trait of the grape variety." —Kerin O'Keefe

More about Brezza

While we are fortunate that the fashion for big & bold, flashy & opulent has seen its day in Barolo, that doesn't mean that every traditionally made Barolo manages to achieve the harmony and elegance that we seek—but Brezza delivers.

The wines from this address have always been good, but they've become truly fine in recent years. Enzo is the driving force behind the huge step up in quality that this old estate has taken in the past decade or so, as well as their conversion to organic viticulture. He makes unfailingly honest and delicate wines of purpose.

Brezza's wines are all from hand-harvested estate fruit and are fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The Baroli are aged in 3,000L untoasted Slavonian oak botti. None of the wines are fined or filtered. The results are classic beauties of red fruit and charm.
