Domaine Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Grandes Ruchottes 2021 [NET]

$46999

The taut, mineral 2021 vintage from Pillot's hilltop Grandes Ruchottes parcel. Where the rich 2019 showed concentration and tangy amplitude, the 2021 is leaner and more driving—pure Burgundy DNA from a challenging growing season. Same tiny 0.26-hectare parcel on thin, stony marly limestone at the very top of the hill. Maximum 10% new oak, natural fermentation, no bâtonnage, unfiltered.

Antonio Galloni

93 points

"The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Grandes Ruchottes 1er Cru has a sweeter tropical-tinged bouquet with touches of passion fruit and nectarine, though it manages to retain fine delineation. The oak is neatly integrated. The palate is slightly reductive on the entry, with good depth, a little waxy in texture with a touch of hazelnut and oatmeal towards the finish. Classy. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"Pillot managed to produce the equivalent of two and a half barrels of the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Grandes Ruchottes, and again, despite the low yield, the resulting wine is brilliant, exhibiting aromas of pear, orange zest, bread dough, bee pollen and struck flint. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and chiseled, with racy acids and chalky structuring extract, it concludes with a long, saline finish." —William Kelley

More about Domaine Paul Pillot

Thierry Pillot is killing it! He is a super-talented vigneron, and since he has taken over his family's domain the quality has gone through the roof. He is one of those rare characters who is equally good at making red and white wines.

They have 13 hectares of vines in the domaine, 1/3 red and 2/3 white. The whites are very concentrated because of the frost and the reds are supple and elegant, really classic. Like many young vignerons, Thierry has also set up a micro-negociant under his own name.
